Synopsis

The story of ‘Kalama’ revolves around a small orphan boy, Babula. Ramakanta babu a Govt. employee finds Babula in distress and takes him to home. His wife did not like the idea of giving shelter to the orphan boy by her husband, but Babula temporarily stayed with them. Tutu, the school going son of Ramakanta was a mathematics tutor Pradyumna Sir, who is a govt high school teacher finds Babula very intelligent. One day he asks Ramakanta to admit the orphan boy in the school. But Ramakanta expresses his inability. Finally Pradhumna Sir decideds to adopt Babula and look for his welfare. As Pradyumna Sir’s retirement time draws nearer, he takes his transfers to his native place which is for away from the capital city, so Babula went with him. Time passed Ramakanta babu retires & becomes old. In between, his wife was passed away also. He has become loaner. Tutu his only child was taken up a job in USA and his wife & children stays with him there. He was not visited Ramakanta for about a long time. At times he calls Ramakanta over telephone. Ramakanta feels that the relationship between him and Tutu has become cold and formal. He decides that he has to live somehow for the rest of his lifetime. So going for a morning work and meeting friends was become a short of consolation to his disturbed mind. At times he thinks about Babula, but he has no way to trace him now. For Tutu’s higher education Ramakanta had taken a bank loan with a hope that when Tutu will be settled in a job, he will reply the huge study loan. But all these years Tutu has never mentioned anything about the repayment of the said loan. So finally to pay back the money to the bank, Ramakanta surrenders his house to the concerned bank for auction. To settle the transfer of the ownership of the said house Ramakanta reaches the bank on a fixed date. There he finds that the younger who has taken over the ownership of the house through a public auction is non other than well educated, rich handsome Babaula. After some emotional moments, Babula takes Ramakanta to his home forever.
